Love and relationships
"Love is patient, love is kind..." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
This passage from 1 Corinthians 13 is often referred to as the "love chapter" of the Bible. It describes the nature of love and the characteristics that love should possess. This passage shows that love is not only an emotion, but an action and a decision, an active choice that we have to make on daily basis.
One of the key aspects of love is patience. In our relationships, it is easy to become frustrated and to want things to happen quickly. But true love is patient and is willing to wait for the right time.
Another characteristic of love is kindness. Love always treats others with kindness, even when they may not deserve it. We should strive to show kindness to our loved ones and to treat them with compassion and understanding.
Love is also selfless, it is not self-seeking or boastful. It honors others, it is not easily angered and it doesn't hold grudges. It's not pleased with evil but rejoices with the truth, it always protects, trusts, hopes and perseveres.
Let us ask ourselves, do our relationships reflect this kind of love? let's pray for the strength and wisdom to love others as Christ loves us, and to reflect his love in our relationships with our family and friends.
Pray with us
Dear God, thank You for Your love. Help us to love others in the same way, with patience, kindness and selflessness. Give us the strength to honor others and to forgive quickly. Help us to reflect Your love in all of our relationships. Amen.
