When it comes to building healthy relationships, it's important to remember that love is the foundation. Love is the glue that binds all of the other virtues together and makes them strong. But what does love look like in practice?
"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." Colossians 3:12-14.
One of the key aspects of love is forgiveness. Just as God forgave us, we are called to forgive others. This doesn't mean that we simply brush off hurtful or harmful behavior, but rather that we extend grace and mercy to those who have wronged us. Holding onto anger and resentment will only harm ourselves and our relationships.
Another important aspect of love is patience. Relationships take time and effort to build and grow, and we won't always see the results right away. But with patience, we can work through difficulties and conflicts, and come out stronger on the other side.
In addition to forgiveness and patience, the verse also mentions other virtues like compassion, kindness, humility, and gentleness. These are also important in building healthy relationships. We should strive to be compassionate, understanding and kind with others. And also be humble, it means we can admit our mistakes and be willing to learn and grow, not only in our relationship with others but also in our relationship with God. And gentleness, it means that we can be gentle in our words and actions, treating others with care and respect.
Love is the foundation for all healthy relationships, and it's rooted in humility, forgiveness, patience, kindness, compassion, and gentleness. By putting these virtues into practice, we can build relationships that are strong, resilient, and truly loving.

Dear God, we thank You for the gift of relationships and the opportunity to connect with others. We ask that You would help us to build strong foundations for all of our relationships, rooted in love. Give us the grace to forgive as You have forgiven us, to be patient and understanding, to show kindness and compassion, and to be humble and gentle in all of our interactions. Amen.
