Building a legacy of faith as a family
"...to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just" - Genesis 18:19
“For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him.” - Genesis 18:19.
As parents, one of our greatest desires is to leave a legacy of faith for our children. We want to instill in them a love for God and a desire to follow His ways. This desire is not a selfish one, but rather one that is rooted in the knowledge that the faith we pass on to our children will impact not only their lives, but the lives of generations to come.
In Genesis 18:19, we see God’s plan for Abraham and his family. God chose Abraham and promised to bless him and make him a great nation. But God’s plan didn’t stop with Abraham. He chose Abraham to be the father of a great nation because He knew that Abraham would direct his children and his household to keep the way of the Lord.
As we seek to build a legacy of faith in our families, we must first recognize that it is God who has chosen us and called us to this task. It is through our obedience and commitment to Him that we are able to lead our families in the way of the Lord.
We must also be intentional in the way we direct our children and our households. We must model a life of faith and obedience, and we must teach our children to do what is right and just. We must create an environment where our children can experience the love of God and see His faithfulness in our lives.
Ultimately, building a legacy of faith requires a steadfast commitment to God and His ways. We must trust in His promises and seek His guidance in all that we do. As we walk in obedience and faithfulness, we can be confident that God will bring about His plans and purposes for our families.
Pray with us
Dear God, thank You for choosing us to be a part of Your family and for calling us to build a legacy of faith. Help us to be intentional in the way we direct our families and to create an environment where our children can experience Your love and faithfulness. Give us the strength and wisdom to walk in obedience and to trust in Your promises for our families. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
